Is the Wegovy pill available in Denmark?
Yes, the Wegovy pill has been available in Denmark since Monday 28 September 2026, on prescription only.
The European Commission approved Wegovy as a tablet on 15 July 2026 for adults with a BMI of 30 or more, or 27 or more with a weight-related disease. Germany was the first EU country to have it, on 1 September 2026, and the United States had it from January 2026. In Denmark it went on the price list on 28 September 2026.
The medicine is still called Wegovy. In everyday language people say the Wegovy pill, the Wegovy tablet or the weight loss pill. It must not be confused with Rybelsus, which is also semaglutide as a tablet, but is only approved for type 2 diabetes.
How much does the Wegovy pill cost in Denmark?
The Wegovy pill costs DKK 2,838.20 for 30 tablets of 1.5 mg or 4 mg and DKK 3,876.90 for 30 tablets of 9 mg at Danish pharmacies in the price period 28 September to 11 October 2026.
| Strength | Pack | Pharmacy price | Per 4 weeks, 1 tablet a day |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1.5 mg | 30 tablets | DKK 2,838.20 | About DKK 2,648.99 |
| 4 mg | 30 tablets | DKK 2,838.20 | About DKK 2,648.99 |
| 9 mg | 30 tablets | DKK 3,876.90 | About DKK 3,618.44 |
| 25 mg | Not yet on the list | No price yet | No price yet |
Official pharmacy price including the DKK 10 prescription fee. So far only parallel-imported packs; the manufacturer's own packs and the 25 mg strength are not yet listed. See pharmacy prices today.
The price per 4 weeks is the pack price for 30 tablets scaled to 28 tablets, because you take one tablet a day. There is no subsidy for weight loss medication in Denmark, for the pen or the tablet, so you pay the full pharmacy price. Prices are the same at all Danish pharmacies and registered online pharmacies, and they are set every 14 days.
For comparison, the Wegovy pen costs DKK 1,284.25 to 2,296.55 per 4 weeks in the same period. See Wegovy in Denmark.

How do you take the Wegovy pill?
You take one tablet in the morning on an empty stomach with at most half a glass of water, and wait at least 30 minutes before eating, drinking or taking other medicine.
Semaglutide is a peptide that stomach acid normally breaks down. The tablet contains an ingredient that protects it so it can be absorbed through the stomach lining, and this only works on an empty stomach. That is why the rules are fixed:
- Swallow the tablet whole with up to about 120 ml of water. Do not split, crush or chew it.
- Wait at least 30 minutes before you eat, drink or take other medicine. Otherwise too little of the substance is absorbed.
- The dose is increased every 4 weeks: 1.5 mg, 4 mg, 9 mg and finally 25 mg as the maintenance dose, if it is tolerated.
Wegovy pill or pen: which works better?
The effect is in the same range: about 13.6% weight loss after 64 weeks for the pill and about 14.9% after 68 weeks for the pen, measured in separate studies.
An indirect comparison found no clinically meaningful difference. The choice is therefore about everyday life: one daily tablet with a fasting routine, or one weekly injection at any time of day. If you start on the pen now, the doctor can consider a switch to the pill later.
What are the side effects, and who should not take it?
The most common side effects are nausea, vomiting, constipation and diarrhoea, especially during the dose increase.
They usually ease over weeks, and the doctor can pause the dose increase. Rare but serious side effects are inflammation of the pancreas and gallstones. The pill should not be used during pregnancy, breastfeeding or planned pregnancy, after previous inflammation of the pancreas or with certain hereditary thyroid diseases. If you take other medicine, for example for diabetes, the doctor needs to know.
Can I get the Wegovy pill without a prescription?
No, the Wegovy pill is prescription-only throughout the EU, and pharmacies may only dispense it against a prescription.
Websites offering the Wegovy pill without a prescription act illegally, and the Danish Medicines Agency (Lægemiddelstyrelsen) regularly finds fake tablets with wrong or dangerous content. The legal route is a doctor, an e-prescription and a Danish pharmacy or registered online pharmacy.
