Questions we often get.

About erection problems

How common is it?
Far more common than most people think. Around 5 % experience it at 40, over 10 % at 50 and 20 to 25 % after 65. You are in the company of a great many men, and the treatment is well documented. .
Why does it happen?
Most often it is about blood flow. Smoking, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, excess weight and too little exercise affect the small blood vessels. Stress, performance pressure and poor sleep also play a part, and a number of common medicines cause it as a side effect. The good news is that you can do something about almost everything on the list. Read about the causes.
Can it be a sign of something else?
Yes, and that is why it is wise to have it checked. The same blood vessels are found in the rest of the body, so erection problems can be an early sign of high blood pressure, high cholesterol or diabetes. The doctor therefore asks about your heart, your blood pressure and diabetes before issuing a prescription. If we discover something early, it is easier to treat.
Can I do something myself?
Yes, and it works. Quitting smoking, losing weight, exercising and drinking less alcohol improve erections for many men and are sometimes enough on their own. They also make the medication more effective if you get it. If you need to lose weight, you can read about medical weight loss.

The treatment

Does the medication work?
For most men. Around 7 out of 10 men get the effect they want. The medication does not create an erection on its own, but helps the body's own erection along and requires sexual stimulation. If the first type does not work well enough, the doctor adjusts the dose or switches to another type.
Who can the doctor approve?
Men aged 18 and over with erection problems. The doctor assesses you individually and looks especially at your heart, your blood pressure and your other medication. If you take nitrates, for example nitroglycerin, you cannot use erectile dysfunction medication.
Which medication can I get?
You can get a short-acting type that works after about an hour and lasts up to five hours, or a long-acting type that works for up to 36 hours and allows more spontaneity. The doctor recommends the type that suits you and your everyday life. Read more in our medication guide.
How many tablets do I get?
The standard prescription covers up to 12 tablets per 4 weeks, about three times a week. You may take the medication at most once a day. More does not give a better effect, only more side effects. The doctor can always adjust the type, dose and quantity.
How quickly can I get started?
Quickly. Answer the questions at the top and book your free consultation, or ask the doctor to call as soon as possible, typically within a few hours. If the doctor approves the treatment, the doctor issues the prescription the same day, and it is ready at your pharmacy immediately.
Can I get erectile dysfunction pills online in Denmark?
Yes. Erectile dysfunction medication (ED pills) requires a prescription, and a licensed Danish doctor may issue it after a phone consultation when it is medically appropriate. At Recepta you answer a few questions, talk to the doctor, and if the doctor approves the treatment, the prescription is sent electronically to your own pharmacy, often the same day.
Where can I get ED pills on prescription?
At every Danish pharmacy once you have a prescription. The prescription can come from your own GP or from an online doctor clinic like Recepta. You collect the tablets at your own pharmacy or order them from a Danish online pharmacy with discreet delivery. The medication typically costs DKK 30 to 50 for 12 tablets.
Can you buy ED pills without a prescription?
No, not legally in Denmark. ED pills without a prescription from foreign online shops are often counterfeit, and the contents can be dangerous, especially together with heart medication. The consultation at Recepta is free, so there is no reason to take the risk.

Price and payment

What does it cost, and what do I get?
The consultation is free, and the membership costs from DKK 69 per 4 weeks with the first 4 weeks free. Prescription, all renewals, dose adjustment and written follow-up are included in the price. You buy the medication yourself at the pharmacy, typically DKK 30 to 50 for 12 tablets, which is 4 weeks of use. There are no other costs.
When do I pay?
If you choose the rolling membership, you pay DKK 0 at booking. We only charge you once your 4 free weeks are over, and only if the doctor has approved you. If you choose 12 weeks or 1 year, we reserve your first period on your card at booking (DKK 198 or DKK 828, with the 4 free weeks deducted). The reservation may look like a payment in your bank, but we only charge the amount on the day the doctor approves you and issues your prescription. The period runs from that same day. If the doctor does not approve you, we release the reservation and you pay DKK 0. You can always cancel on My page up to the day before a renewal.

Safety and discretion

Is the medication safe?
Yes, when you use it correctly. The European medicines authorities have approved erectile dysfunction medication, and millions of men have used it since the late 1990s. The most common side effects are headache, facial flushing and a blocked nose, usually mild and short-lived.
When must I not take it?
You must never combine erectile dysfunction medication with nitrates, for example nitroglycerin. You also cannot use it with unstable heart disease, after a heart attack or stroke within the last 6 months, with very low blood pressure or with severe liver or kidney disease. If an erection lasts more than 4 hours, a doctor must see you immediately. The doctor goes through everything with you before you get a prescription.
Is it discreet?
Yes. The whole treatment takes place from home with no physical attendance, and doctors' confidentiality and GDPR cover everything. The doctor issues the prescription electronically, and it is ready at every Danish pharmacy. You collect the medication at your own pharmacy or order it from an online pharmacy with discreet delivery. Like all other medication, the prescription appears on your personal medication record. We never send physical mail.
